Paintings on wood - 1

 Images painted on wood. Some
on  bits of plank, some on panels made out of several bits of wood glued together. There are more images so I had to upload them on several pages so they're easy to look at (I guess). A few icons to start with, not many, I didn't paint many icons anyway.
First icon is a reproduction (attempt of one at least), done before 1999.
The second one was a commission and it was an interesting experiment in what the staining of the background was concerned. Some people simply don't understand that the gold varnish on the old paintings gets all sort of dirt stuck in it, hence that "old" patina.

I like them all.  The image below is not an icon.

The bird on the left here proved to be a successful painting. The 2 guys below the bird are probably the first painting I've done on wood, from scratch that is ( I prepared the wood for painting as well, there is one image somewhere which had been painted on a piece of plank which had been primed by someone else - laugh all you want, it was a trial and I think that the guy used some sort of cement? He did size the wood and he did use muslin as a base for the primer. Interesting stuff, the painting is still in good shape.) And yes, the portrait on the very bottom is the one painted on a cement based primed bit of timber. The fish was a gift to someone who facilitated the obtaining of a piece of muslin larger than usual, which allowed me to prime some
panels using just one piece of muslin rather than overlap several strips. Larger pieces of muslin aren't that much of an issue now, learn and adapt is the name of the game. Fabric shops can be a treasure trove.
