2013 - Paintings on wood. Series of 10.

These are images painted during, 2013. Taken me a few months, due to lack of time and lack of brains - mostly the 2nd one. All these are approx. 100x60 cm, with acrylic paint and copper leaf. They're called Garden 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09 and 10 respectively and this is the finished intended series.

In some of the images  I wanted to explore the relation between "flat" blocks of colour and perspective. There is also a contrast between the relatively uniform aspect of the metallic leaf and the light-shade gradient employed on some of the architectural elements as well as on the intended point of focus which is the vegetal element.

In the paintings Garden 04/10 and Garden 05/10 (the one  to the right and the one below and to the left of this bit of text respectively) I went back slightly with regards to the subject of the images, there is a door opened in the metallic background in Garden 04/10 which would suggest that there's more always something more in a given scene which is not immediately apparent. Also, in Garden 05/10 there is only an outline of a box in the ether as if to suggest that things can materialise or dematerialise out of or into thin air. All around us there is something greater than just ourselves or our ideas of what/who we are and what we sense

In the image on the left, Garden 07/10 there is another element that I have used quite often in my images, a line which crosses the image. The line has several meanings which I am not going to enumerate here. Suffice to say it is used to add an extra dimension to the image, maybe deeper and more complex than the door which has been depicted in Garden 04/10. There is also the feeling of melancholy when I see parts of buildings or ruins popping out of the ground in places which have not been inhabited for many years.
